Job Description

ASSISTANT HEAD OF CONSTRUCTION

Reports to: Head of Construction

Function:    To assist in coordinating the operation of the Scenic construction Department and to build scenic elements as assigned by the Head of Construction

Duties and Responsibilities shall include but not be limited to:

  • Building scenic elements as assigned by the Head of Construction.
  • Producing construction drawings as assigned and when required, communicate with scenic carpenters to facilitate the construction of scenic elements.
  • Assisting with the scheduling of personnel and transportation of Scenic elements as assigned by the Head of Construction.
  • Assisting in the cleanliness of the scene shop and assembly area as assigned by the Head of Construction.
  • Acting as the point of contact when the Head of Construction is not available to lead the scene shop at the Northfield Production Facility and Satellite locations.
  • Assisting with ordering material required for scenic construction as assigned.
  • Attending prelim design meetings as required.
  • Researching details of scenic designs as assigned.
  • Completing major repairs of scenery during the run of shows as assigned by the Head of Construction.
  • Assisting and supervising load-in, set-up, and strike of Scenery as assigned.
  • Reporting all accidents/incidents to the Head of Construction immediately.
  • Be fully responsible for any keys, credit cards and petty cash floats given to the employee by the Theatre and to return any such keys, cards or petty cash funds on demand.
  • Upholding the professional image and name of the Theatre in good faith during all dealings with staff, guest artists, the public suppliers and other theatre companies.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the Head of Construction and/or the Director of Production.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through a 3 year community college doplona in Technical Theatre Production, and 3-4 years related work experience.
  • Intermediate AutoCAD skills.
  • From time to time work is required at various venues, as such, overnight stay may be required.
  • A full "G" driver's license is required.
  • Clean driving record and the ability to be insured on a Drayton Entertainment vehicle. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 20kg.
  • Successful candidate must provide and wear certified steel toed safety footwear. 

Term: 12 month contract (maternity leave coverage) with an opportunity to become full-time. Anticipated start date is December 16, 2024.
