Job Description
Key activities:
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Artistic Planning, the Manager of Artistic Operations works with the Senior Manager on programming, with specific responsibility for Pops and assigned Special projects, and fills a leadership role with the team in production the NAC Orchestra’s season concerts, ensuring that program details are confirmed and implemented effectively, and that relevant information is communicated appropriately.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
• Working in collaboration with Senior Manager of Artistic Planning, facilitate artistic planning, with specific responsibility for Pops, chamber music, and other projects, as assigned.
• Working closely with NACO Administration team to ensure successful concert production, confirming artistic programming, and working with stage manager and guest artists/hosts as applicable to determine concert flow, program
duration, speaking from stage, and any other required components and ancillary activities. • Remain informed on the work of the Senior Manager of Artistic Planning to act in that capacity in that person’s absence.
• Manage the guest artist budget and other planning budget lines, including monthly tracking and reporting.
• Collaborate with NACO team to develop and confirm NACO Season schedule.
• Manage specific projects: lead project team, establish assignments, workflow, budgets and communication plan.
• Liaise with NAC marketing and communications teams to ensure accurate program information and artist PR contacts for season promotion.
• Proof artistic content for Marketing and Development materials, working with comms team and other staff to share accurate content within required timelines.
• Confirm music licensing requirements.
• Manage chamber music concerts series, collaborating with NACO and curators to program and to execute.
• Manage Artistic Coordinator, including goal setting and reviewing performance.
• Working with Artistic Coordinator, manage artist care and hosting throughout season.
• Working with Senior Manager of Artistic Planning, establish meeting schedule, agendas, and take and circulate minutes for NACO Artistic Advisory Committee.
• Attend rehearsals and participate on a regular rotation of artistic staff that supervises backstage operations at performances.
Required qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Music or Arts Administration, or a related field, with extensive classical music experience as an administrator, or equivalent experience;
• Extensive knowledge of orchestral and chamber music repertoire, composers, and the orchestral industry in general;
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in artistic planning or production for a classical music presenting organisation.
• Proven administrative skills in the areas of project management, programming and financial management;
• Ability to set priorities results to an established standard, and on time and on budget;
• Professional experience working closely with a Music Director and/or Artistic Director,
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information with discretion.
• Thorough knowledge of major artistic and publishing agencies.
• Conflict resolution skill, ability to diffuse highly charged conversations.
• Demonstrated proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft Office pack and OPAS.
• Knowledge of and experience working with collective bargaining agreements.
• Bilingualism in both official languages a strong asset.
• Possess a valid drivers' license.
