Company Overview

Founded in 1975, The Blyth Centre for the Arts includes the Blyth Festival – our professional, regional theatre – a community orchestra, the Blyth Festival singers and a curated art gallery. All in a rural village, population 1,000.

For 48 seasons Blyth Festival has been the cultural heart of Huron County, welcoming tens of thousands of patrons through our doors. Shared laughter in a public space, shared awe, shared tears, these are the things that unite and grow a community.

There is also a special social currency that Blyth Festival plays carry: plays that give voice to the region and the country. Of current work under commission for future seasons, 25% of Blyth plays are being written by Indigenous playwrights, and more than half of all works in-development are being created by artists of colour. The project of Canada is a constant conversation here.

Dedicated to creation and development, Blyth plays have toured across Canada. Plays that began at Blyth have been produced in 29 countries and translated into dozens of languages.

Blyth Festival’s decades-long commitment to education, and a Young Company program based in collective creation, has fostered skills, confidence, and a life-long love of the Arts for generations of young people across Huron and Perth counties.
