Buddies in Bad Times, known to friends as Buddies, is a queer organization: for us queerness is a political/aesthetic orientation, more than (just) an identitarian subcategory, our queerness is oppositional, disobedient, and centers and celebrates otherness and radical outsiders.
ROLE:
At the heart of Buddies in Bad Times and Alexander Street Theatre Projects lies not just a commitment to queer cultural experiences but also to responsible stewardship of our resources and financial integrity that supports queers now and for generations into the future. We’re on the lookout for a meticulous and diligent Bookkeeper, a pivotal role that intertwines with our mission by ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and smooth operational flow. This position offers a unique opportunity to be at the financial helm of organizations that are iconic in the queer community, contributing directly to the sustenance of queer spaces and narratives.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
As our Bookkeeper, you will dive into a range of responsibilities that keep our financial world spinning. You’ll:
- Champion Financial Record Keeping: With QuickBooks Online as your canvas, paint a picture of our financial health through meticulous records and transactions.
- Craft the Payroll Process: Navigate the waters of Payworks to ensure our team is compensated accurately and timely, maintaining a keen eye on deductions, withholdings, and annual reconciliations.
- Foster Benefits Administration: Partner with Desjardins to administer benefits that keep our team secure and supported.
- Uphold Internal Controls: Be the guardian of our financial policies and procedures, ensuring every dollar is accounted for and our practices meet the highest standards.
- Administer Cash with Care: Oversee cash flows, from petty cash to bank deposits, with precision and integrity.
- Navigate Fund Accounting and Grant Management: Track the lifetimes of our projects through diligent management of funds and grants.
- Ensure Tax Compliance: Stay ahead of the curve in charity tax laws, making sure we’re compliant and our returns are filed without a hitch.
- Plus More: Embrace a variety of financial tasks that ensure our operations run without a financial hiccup.
Let’s make magic happen together.
ABOUT YOU:
You’re not just looking for a job; you’re looking to invest your skills in a space that celebrates diversity, challenges norms, and champions queerness in all its forms. You:
- Are passionate about maintaining financial integrity in a queer, creative environment.
- Thrive in dynamic settings where every day presents a new challenge and an opportunity to learn.
- Are detail-oriented, with a knack for numbers and a commitment to accuracy.
- Enjoy the harmony of working within regulations while embracing the unique chaos and vibrancy of a queer cultural institution.
- Have experience with QuickBooks Online, Payworks, or similar financial software. Knowledge of Desjardins benefits administration is a plus but not a requirement. Other softwares and tools used include Dext, Float, and Google Workspace
- Are ready to jump into a role that demands flexibility, including the readiness to meet the evolving needs of our organization.
We prioritize applications from folks from equity-deserving groups, including those who identify as Indigenous, racialized, Trans, Nonbinary, Queer, Disabled, Neurodiverse, MAD and intersections of those identities.
If you’re ready to be a cornerstone of an organization that stands at the intersection of financial stewardship and queer culture, we want to hear from you. Your work will not just keep us running; it will ensure we continue to be a beacon for queerness, creativity, and community.
