CONNECTED CURRENTS: Conflict Management Training [Session 4]

The fourth and final session of this program, Connected Currents: Conflict Management Training, which will take place Monday, May 5, 2025, from 3 – 5 pm ET on zoom.

The session specifically for emerging and mid-career IBPOC (Indigenous, Black, People of Colour) arts administrators will feature conflict management training led by the organization Ground Floor.

Ground Floor was co-founded in 2021 by five theatre artists who came together to explore the question "how can we make the theatre industry a healthier place to work?" With that very large question in mind, co-founders Dave Ball, Alexis Gordon, Richard Lam, Amelia Sargisson and Tahirih Vejdani spent a year speaking to experts on care, social justice, and empathetic practice. Together, they searched for ways to circumvent traditional patterns of harm in the theatre industry and forge new paths for creating deeply embodied work.

In Ground Floor’s conflict management training, they outline the predictable patterns of conflict that form between people who work together. Participants will look at the root causes of these patterns and discuss a number of methods for identifying them as they happen. Then, Ground Floor will offer usable, practical tools to address and resolve conflicts when they do occur. This training is delivered using a combination of lecture style teaching, case studies and exercises drawn from real conflicts in the theatre industry that we have worked on, and group question and answer sessions.

New IBPOC attendees and participants are welcome and encouraged!
