Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Overseeing the technical team (stage management, designers, crew, etc.) throughout the rehearsal/production processes.

• Assist PM and SM’s in creating tech week schedules for the repertory season in accordance with CAEA Dance Opera Theatre (DOT) Agreement.

• Overseeing departmental budgets and managing expense reporting for technical staff.

• Leading all set and prop construction and treatments, includes costing, drafting, construction as needed, sourcing materials and making efficient changeover schedules and plans for all shows.

• Leading load-in of all four shows in our season.

• Assisting the PM with rentals, returns, storage of equipment for the rehearsal hall and the theatre.

• Training the change over crew to run the rep. season efficiently. 

• Creating plans for theatre set-up, production install, changeovers and strike

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS

• Graduate from an accredited post-secondary institution in the field of theatrical production with significant, relevant experience in repertory theatre. 

• A thorough and current understanding of set construction techniques, staging principles and production techniques for theatre.

• Strong leadership skills.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Ability to work well in a team.

• Strength in solving interpersonal conflict.

• The ability to remain calm, positive and focused in a high pressure and deadline-based environment.

• First aid training is considered an asset.

• This role will require backstage production work in an outdoor setting, and physical labour will be involved. This could include, but is not limited to, climbing ladders, lifting set pieces, participating in set changeovers, etc.  

SALARY: $1250.00 weekly 

DURATION: 6 weeks (non consecutive. Divided in two to cover all four show openings)
