Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival (SOTS) is a vibrant part of the Saskatoon theatre community. Our festival has been a staple of summer in Saskatoon since 1985, attracting over 10,000 visitors annually. Each year, our audience joins us to enjoy dynamic interpretations of classic Shakespeare plays, as well as other works by local and Canadian artists all on the backdrop of the beautiful South Saskatchewan River and our brand-new festival site on the Meewasin Trail.

Job Description

Working primarily under the direction of the Artistic Director, the Marketing Intern’s role is to promote the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival to new and existing audiences, enhance the sales of its various products and services, and ensure that the advertising plans for the festival are carried out. The Marketing Intern is proficient with digital technologies, is organized and self-motivated, is comfortable building relationships with various stakeholders, and is interested in growing the visibility and engagement of Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan with the broader community.

This is a seasonal term contract from approximately May 15th, 2024 to September 30th, 2024. Hours will vary as our workload varies seasonally but will land between 24-32 hours weekly on average.

 

ABOUT YOU

The key duties and responsibilities for the position will include, but are not limited to:

AUDIENCE & STAKEHOLDER RELATIONS

·       Collect and analyze data about our current audience demographics

·       Contribute to the development and implementation of plans to expand our reach, with a particular focus on fulfilling our values of reconciliation, diversity, and inclusion.

·       Build relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including on site during fundraising events and artistic programming

·       Support the tracking and fulfillment of sponsorship agreements

 

ADVERTISING & PROMOTIONS

·       Establish and maintain relationships with media contacts, across multiple platforms, throughout the province

·       Assist with the development of messaging that promotes the festival, including our various fundraisers and special events

·       Assist and carry out all advertising and publicity of festival activities through a variety of mediums

·       Update the company website to ensure event, ticket, and sponsor information is accurate and accessible

 

SALES TRACKING & DEVELOPMENT

·       Track and analyze sales data for our various products and services

·       Recommend new ideas for products, services, and events that will help increase sales, while adhering to our values and strategic vision

·       Monitor the marketing, promotions, and sales budgets and help ensure targets are being met.

 

INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

·       Work closely with the Artistic Director to ensure that the vision for the organization and our art is appropriately communicated through all promotional materials, including signage.

·       Provide updates to staff about marketing and sales goals and progress made.

·       Collaborate with artists and fellow staff to ensure that messaging is consistent, accurate, and adheres to all internal and industry-mandated standards.

·       Manage the sale of merchandise, including strategy, procurement, distribution, and inventory management

Qualifications

·       Comfortable working with digital technologies, including Microsoft 365 applications and basic graphic design software

·       Familiarity with the Saskatchewan arts sector and media platforms would be a significant asset

·       Ability to track and analyze sales data and design plans for expanding audience engagement

·       Strong attention to detail in verbal and written communication

·       Strong organization skills and the ability to coordinate activities and communications with a variety of stakeholders

·       Creative and innovative thinking

·       Dependable and independently motivated

·       Post-secondary training in a related field such as journalism, marketing, communications, or public relations considered an asset
