Located on the territories of the Lekwungen speaking peoples the Belfry Theatre is Victoria BC’s largest professional not-for-profit theatre. As a professional theatre company, we are dedicated to producing contemporary plays, with an emphasis on Canadian work.
Each season the Belfry produces or presents four to six primarily Canadian contemporary plays and presents productions from across Canada as part of our annual SPARK Festival. The company actively commissions and develops new work from the national community, hosts local artists and companies, and provides access to several community organizations. Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Artistic and Executive Directors, the Producer is responsible for artist contracts in partnership with the Director of Production and the Executive Director. They are also responsible for arranging travel and accommodation for creative teams. The Producer has a key role in ensuring that all artists feel welcome and cared for at the Belfry.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works jointly with the Executive Director to contract primarily artists including but not limited to: Actors, Fight Directors, Choreographers, Music Directors.
- Works jointly with the Executive Director and Director of Production to manage literary and production rights.
- Manages travel and accommodation for all out-of-town artists.
- Acts as Company Management support for artists as required (after hours on-call work).
- Responds in a timely fashion to arising needs from operational or production meetings, show reports, surveys, and other stakeholder communications.
- Serves as a public representative for Belfry at events with or in the absence of the Artistic Director and/or Executive Director.
- Assists the team in assessing scripts for human resource and budget requirements.
- Supports the Artistic Director for additional events such as auditions, B4Play (pre-show conversations), and donor events.
- Schedules, attends, and take minutes at Board Meetings and AGM.
- Cultivates unique community and artistic outreach partnerships that support and amplify the Belfry Theatre’s role in the region.
- Collaborates on role-specific sections of the production budget’s creation and oversight.
- Supports drafting and review of production-specific project grant applications.
- Develops and maintains processes and materials that contribute to Belfry Theatre’s success as a respectful, compassionate, active workplace for staff and artists.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
3 years minimum experience in theatre leadership roles. Experience in related performing arts fields will be considered, if directly relevant to arts administration.
Skills:
- Experience with contract negotiation, execution, and compliance.
- Proven ability to manage artistic and production budgets.

- Exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, exemplary organization, and proactive problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to build and foster fruitful and respectful relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Must have the ability to efficiently work independently, as well as collaboratively.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of products, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Additional Requirements:
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant sections of the Canadian Theatre Agreement is expected within three months of hiring.
- Must be flexible to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- The successful candidate must be able to commit to the full-time, year-round nature of this position.
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or valid Canadian work permit required.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Salary $50,000 - $55,000 contingent on experience and qualifications.
