This beloved community arts space is available for its own shows and events, community partner events, productions, and festivals. Job Description

Overview

Reporting to the Technical & Facilities Director, the House Technician is responsible for technically executing events in the Majestic Theatre for rental clients and the Majestic’s produced events. The House Technician welcomes renters, artists and staff with a positive, friendly, and professional attitude.

 

The ideal candidate actively enjoys hands-on technical work in the theatre, as well as being capable of supervising and error controlling the work of other technicians, assistants, and stagehands. They are a problem solver and technical generalist who may have a focus in one or more areas. They model a high standard of service, professionalism, courtesy, and competency and are an ambassador of the Majestic Theatre to rental clients and community members.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, operate and troubleshoot audio, lighting, and video systems, which may include live mixing, programming, and playback during events
  • Set up, repair, execute changes, and strikes of scenery, drapery and staging for all types of events.
  • Assist in setting up/striking floor seating and table setups for audience
  • Participate in and/or lead production load in, technical work, event, and strike/load-out.
  • In conjunction with the Technical & Facilities Director ensure all equipment is available or procured for events
  • Supervise/lead other casual technicians on the call and adhere to scheduled call times.
  • Indirectly supervise casual SD/LX staff, volunteers and crews supplied by rental clients
  • Anticipate challenges or schedule impacts and communicate in advance with the Technical & Facilities Director to obtain approvals and develop a plan
  • Assist the Technical Director with facility maintenance
  • Make recommendations and observations to the Technical & Facilities Director regarding ongoing maintenance required in the theatre
  • Follow all company policies and procedures, Health & Safety, Fire, Employment Standards, and WHMIS regulations and ensuring they are followed by casual crew.
  • Other duties as may be assigned or reasonably expected of a House Technician

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education/training in Technical Theatre, Theatre Production or similar, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of or experience in: 
    • Lighting (ETC EOS and/or MA lighting consoles, Streaming ACN, intelligent and moving head fixtures, etc)
    • Sound (DigiCo Digital Sound consoles, QLab, Dante, live mixing, etc.)
    • Video (Qlab, DCP Cinema Projectors and playback, live cameras, video switchers, etc.)
  • Physical abilities with regards to lifting and moving of heavy objects, climbing stairs/ladders, hanging and focusing lights, and other typical technical theatre functions. 
  • Ability to comfortably and confidently work at heights, both on ladders and Mobile Elevating Work Platforms. Working at heights training is considered an asset, but not necessary.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment, sometimes under pressure
  • First Aid Training is considered an asset
  • Excellent communication, problem solving & people management skills.
  • Passionate, innovative, resilient, entrepreneurial, collaborative, creative, positive attitude and (hopefully) a sense of humour.

 

 


Compensation

This is a full-time, ongoing salaried position based on an average of a 40-hour work week. Flexible working hours are required, including evenings and weekends. Salary will be provided commensurate with experience in the range of $55,000 to $60,000 annually. The position includes participation in the Majestic Theatre’s benefits plan after a probationary period of 3 months.
