Company Overview

TNL (Theatre Newfoundland Labrador) is dedicated to creating and producing professional theatre that reflects the lives and diversity of our people on the province's west coast, extending to Labrador and across the island of Newfoundland.  TNL operates the Gros Morne Theatre Festival (GMTF) from May to September annually.  Through GMTF, production tours and educational outreach TNL seeks to provide Newfoundlanders and Labradoreans and visitors to our part of the world with thought-provoking and relevant productions with an emphasis on regional and Canadian work.  The state-of the art Nurse Myra Bennett Centre for the Performing Arts opened its doors in 2021.  This brand new, $10-million, 21,500 square-foot multi performance space is an innovative facility that has long been needed to sustain the festival, now in its 27th year.  Located in magnificent Gros Morne National Park, the theatre aims to be more than a performance space - it will be an anchor and catalyst for creativity, education, socio-economic support and inspiration for communities throughout the Great Northern Peninsula

 

Job Description

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager is responsible for the overall administration and daily operations of the company and its activities. The General Manager collaborates closely with the Artistic Director in a dual leadership model to facilitate the realization of the artistic vision of TNL and its Gros Morne Theatre Festival. to create and oversee the yearly budget and to ensure the ongoing viability and long-term sustainability of the company.

The General Manager builds and maintains relationships with major stakeholders in the company (funders, granting bodies, Gros Morne National Park, donors, theatre colleagues and in the community in general, etc).

The General Manager works with the Artistic Director to support the effective realization of the artistic vision of TNL and oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization, with a focus on financial management, HR, project development and communications, including database management, online company profile and general communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration and Financial Oversight

• Prepares annual budget and closely monitors all aspects of the budget throughout the year to ensure continued financial stability for the company

 • Works with Bookkeeper to prepare financial reports, forecasts and cash flow, and prepare monthly financial reports for Board meetings

 • Works with Bookkeeper on all payroll transactions, including weekly payroll submissions; payroll deductions payments to CRA; issuing ROEs, T4s, T4As

• Ensuring HST quarterly filings are completed on time

• Prepares for, schedules and assists with the organization’s year-end financial audit

• Produces project budgets for grant applications and creating grant applications

• All grant reporting, from acceptance to interim to final reports as required

 


CONTRACT DETAILS

This is a full-time, year-round salaried position, with  some remote work when feasible a possibility.

September-April - The Nurse Myra Bennett Centre for the Performing Arts will be operational during this period, with the Theatre staff programming concerts, events, workshops, conferences, etc. The GM is expected to be at the office in Cow Head, NL, to collaborate with staff as needed, and may work remotely when appropriate.

May-September - Gros Morne Theatre Festival season: A professional repertory theatre season, featuring four to six theatre productions, new play development workshops and readings, and special guest performances.
