Company Overview
Impulse Theatre lives and creates on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen peoples, now known as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. Impulse is an emerging leader in the creation and presentation of contemporary interdisciplinary performances on southern Vancouver Island.
Impulse Theatre was founded by Artistic Producer, Andrew Barrett, to support the development of new, contemporary and multidisciplinary performance. Impulse creates contemporary and tender work that asks audiences to be active participants. Impulse’s interdisciplinary approach sees the traditions of disciplines (theatre, dance, puppetry, video, etc) as offerings as opposed to absolutes. The company was founded in 2010 as an ad-hoc collective. Since incorporation as a society in 2016, we have created over 20 interdisciplinary works and founded multiple residency and mentorship programs, a twice-a-year showcase of new work, and an arts-workers-focused festival to support artists within the region.
We are unique in having a combined dance and theatre mandate, as well as producing the sole performing arts festival geared to development and process for performing arts workers. Our work has been presented and co-presented locally by Theatre SKAM, Intrepid Theatre, and the Belfry Theatre. We have been presented in Vancouver by the rEvolver Theatre Festival and had one of the last residencies at the now-closed Videofag (Toronto).

The Associate will be able to work a flexible hybrid schedule and can work remotely or out of town.
It is encouraged that the Associate is able to be on-site and in Victoria during heavy production weeks to be determined in conversation with the Artistic Producer.
A computer can be provided while in town; a computer stipend will be provided if a personal computer is used.
$200 is provided towards support needs (RMT, therapy, and/or similar services).
This is a part-time position, working approximately 10-15 hours per week, with some flexibility depending on the time of year. Additional hours may be allocated for work with advanced permission from the Artistic Producer.
The position may be required to work evenings and weekends to support programming delivery.
