Job Description
Canada’s National Ballet School is currently inviting applications for the part-time, casual position of Theatre Technician.
We invite you to join the vibrant staff community of Canada's National Ballet School (NBS). NBS has 300+ employees supporting activities ranging from professional ballet training, community programming, and ground-breaking health initiatives.
We are looking for motivated individuals to join our Production Team, with the talent, innovative-thinking and passion to help NBS continue to share the transformative power of dance with people of all ages, abilities, and aspirations. As an organization, NBS is continually evolving and we are looking for team members with unique, new ideas to complement the School’s collaborative work culture.
Reporting to the Technical Director, Theatre Technicians will be responsible for providing technical assistance and expertise in operating the Betty Oliphant Theatre, Currie Hall and other venues at NBS, both for the School and for rental events. Skills & knowledge in the areas of lighting, audio, sound & stage rigging are important aspects of these positions. Knowledge of health and safety practices is a definite asset.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Operation of rigging and fly systems
- Operation of audio systems and setup/patch audio.
- Hang, focus, operate and strike lighting equipment
- Operation of lighting board
- Stage on deck operations including draperies & theatre curtain
Qualifications/Skills/Experience
- Post-secondary education in a related discipline with minimum of 1 year of directly related experience as a theatre technician
- Knowledge of health & safety procedures
- Good communications skills, oral & written
- Able to work in a collaborative environment, sometimes under pressure
- Ability to interact with school staff, external clients & vendors in a professional manner
Successful candidates must supply Canada’s National Ballet School with a Police Reference Check in accordance with the School’s Child Abuse/Sexual Abuse Prevention Policy; this will be coordinated through the Human Resources Department of NBS.
