Job Description
Purpose of the Role
The Technical and Facility Director is responsible for planning, management and supervision of all technical operations, and general maintenance & life safety for all facilities owned and operated by Terra Bruce Productions in St. John’s, NL.
Technical Director
Duties and responsibilities follow, but not limited to the following:
- Oversee technical staffing and calendar for all events in The Majestic Theatre and other facilities, as required.
- Facilitate technical meetings with all renting productions; Communicate with clients directly, assessing their event needs and helping them utilise equipment in relation to their events.
- Supervise and assist, where needed, all load-ins, tech weeks, performances and load-outs at The Majestic Theatre.
- Assist Director, Designers and all other members of the incoming rental companies in planning their productions at The Majestic Theatre.
- Support and help arrange all logistics; including receiving of outside rentals, trucking and scheduling.
- Manage daily, weekly and project deadlines as required by the demands of The Majestic Theatre.
- Work with Managers, Technicians, and Staff as necessary to execute events.
- Develop and maintain database inventories for all technical equipment of the Majestic Theatre and The M.O.T.H. Recording Studio.
- Schedule and supervise maintenance of technical equipment within both safety and budgetary guidelines.
- Perform simple equipment installations, maintenance, and repairs, and coordinate vendors/staff to assist with annual equipment maintenance and more significant issues.
- Maintain knowledge of the latest technology by researching new equipment, attending related training sessions, and obtaining appropriate operating licences.
- Serve as an emergency technician outside of regular hours in order to assist with the prompt resolution of show-related incidents and ensure the production can safely proceed.
- Schedule and manage all The Majestic Theatre technical meetings.
Facility Director
Duties and responsibilities follow, but not limited to the following:
- Manage the maintenance and repair of all facilities.
- Work with senior management to develop and monitor building operations budgets.
- Contract and supervise the cleaning, maintenance, and security of the space.
- Create and plan the cleaning, repair and annual maintenance of all building components.
- Act as company liaison and maintain all service contracts for the building including fire alarm monitoring, life safety systems, HVAC, elevators, and all other utilities.
- Source/order all necessities for security systems, life safety systems, maintenance, and cleaning.
- Coordinate health & safety training and ensure the company is compliant with applicable legislation relating to health & safety, and accessibility.
- Develop policies related to the safe and efficient operation of the facility, including fire safety, and health & safety, in conjunction with other senior management.
- Work collaboratively with the senior management team to support programs, events, and the mandate at the company and its interests.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five years’ technical theatre supervisory experience.
- Extensive knowledge of stagecraft, theatre production, and scenic construction, rigging, automation, lighting, film and video; knowledge of musical theatre repertoire an asset.
- Skilled in budgeting and personnel management.
- Superior organization and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and exercise good judgement and initiative.
- Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with all clients staff in a professional, confidential and tactful manner.
- Good knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices
- Proficiency in Vectorworks, MS Office, Qlab, EOS/ETC lighting systems, Digico audio consoles, Dante networking, Isadora and MadMapper would be considered an asset.
Evening and weekend work is required. This is a fulltime permanent position.
