Job Description
Technical Director – Studio Theatre
The Studio Theatre is located in downtown Stratford and is adjacent to the Avon Theatre. This position reports to the Director of Production and is responsible for leading a collaborative and efficient production process as each season is created and performed. As part of the production management team, you are involved in discussions and provide advice on many aspects of the Production Department.
Responsibilities:
· Implement technical aspects for productions, events and activity within the Studio Theatre
· Evaluation of designs and proposals for safety and financial feasibility
· Evaluation of designs and proposals regarding staging and changeover within the repertory season
· Ensuring that productions fall within established budgets & schedule
· Preparation of season cash flow and regular forecast of financial accounts
· Planning and scheduling of onstage technical events
· Leadership and collaborative management of unionized department heads
· Advising production management on all technical aspects of productions, tours, schedules, technical facilities and equipment of the Studio Theatre
· Collaborates with the Technical Director - Avon Theatre in the overall operation of the Avon/Studio building
· Coordination of Festival wide activity as determined each year such as rentals of stages, concerts, Forum activity
· Ensuring adherence to the Health & Safety policies of the Stratford Festival
Qualifications:
Minimum five years’ experience as a Technical Director in a unionized environment
· Advanced knowledge in Vectorworks or AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
· Strong written and oral communication skills
· Self-motivated and flexible
· Excellent team player
· Collaborative and positive attitude
Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate their belief in collaborative and positive partnership with all involved in a production process. A degree in Theatre Production is considered an asset.
This full-time position is located in Stratford, Ontario and will begin in December 2022.
