Job Description
Neptune Theatre is searching for a highly organized and dynamic Production Manager. This role will be responsible for leading the production department ensuring Neptune’s values of safety, collaboration, inclusivity, and excellence are at the forefront of their work. Reporting to the Artistic Director (AD) and Executive Director (ED), the Production Manager has three direct reports and overseas IASTE union staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, Coordinates, monitors, and executes all Neptune productions
- Creates and controls budgets, schedules, and plans Neptune productions
- Assists in season planning, working closely with the AD and ED
- Budgeting, costing, purchasing, and reconciliation of materials and equipment for productions
- Facilitating all aspects of production design from conception to construction to completion
- Liaise with the Director of Education to determine and provide production staffing for theatre school programs and productions
- Recruit and hire all Production Department staff in consultation with the Technical Director, and Production Heads as appropriate.
- Managing theatre facilities and equipment ensuring safety and efficiency
- Arranging all elements for key milestones and dates of each production.
- Supporting and liaising with production creative teams
- Schedule and Chair Production Department meetings as required to facilitate clear communication of each production's requirements to all Production Staff.
- Ensuring effective inter-departmental communication between departments regarding productions
- Maintaining strict compliance with applicable legislation, licencing, safety regulations, IATSE agreement and company policies
- Negotiate and create contracts for designers, and team members
- Scheduling, completing payroll, and managing staff
- Overseeing the scheduling and technical aspects of all rental events.
- Co-chair the joint health and safety committee
- Collaborate with the Senior Management team on plans, partnerships, projects, and strategies to support Neptune Theatre’s mission.
REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ year of management experience in theatre production and/or technical direction
- Post-secondary technical theatre training or equivalent experience
- Extremely knowledgeable of theatre operations, equipment, and safety procedures
- Experience working with industry unions and organizations (IATSE, CAEA, ADC, AFM, PACT)
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Proficient in budget creation and management, ensuring effective allocation and control of financial resources
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills, and is detail oriented
- Adept at multitasking, prioritizing tasks and consistently meets deadlines
- Skilled in problem-solving and able to adapt quickly
- Exhibits a positive and collaborative attitude, fostering teamwork and cooperation.
- Flexible schedule that allows availability to work some evenings and weekends
SALARY
This position offers an annual salary of $65, 000 + including vacation and health plan benefits.
