From encouraging independent and emerging artists, and multicultural work, to inspiring our staff and artists to work collaboratively, Theatre Passe Muraille works to ensure all voices are represented on our stage.

Typically, Theatre Passe Muraille produces and/or presents 6-8 shows a year and hosts rental companies and festivals throughout the year. Theatre Passe Muraille operates 3 performance spaces -- a Mainspace Theatre (185 seats), a newly renovated Backspace Theatre (55 seats), and a Cabaret/Bar space (capacity of 100).

 

Job Description

Start Date: Immediately (can be flexible with the start date)

Salary:  $40K - $45K pending  experience

Benefits: Health & Dental

Term: Permanent, Full Time (35 hrs a week) 

Hours: Daytime, Monday to Friday with mandatory occasional weeknights and weekend work

City/Town: Toronto

Vacation: 10 days plus an additional week of company holiday closure in December and 12 sick/personal days 

Position:  PRODUCTION COORDINATOR
Reporting directly to the Production and Facilities Manager,  the role of the Production Coordinator will support all production and facilities related tasks of the Production and Facilities Manager.  This includes technical and production aspects of overall activities in the theatres (Backspace and Mainspace) as well as  the building’s maintenance, security and upkeep. This position will also be supervising the work of any and all contract crew hired for specific calls. 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Support with the development and implementation of technical plans for each production, including technical schedules, production meetings, design deadlines. 

  • Support with the set designs, lighting plots, and sound requirements for each production. 

  • Support with the management of crew and overtime hours as set by the Production and Facilities Manager

  • Coordinate and supervise the crew in the construction, installation, and maintenance of sets, props, and scenic elements as well as other design elements. 

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices in all technical aspects of productions.

  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and supervision of  technical crew. 

  • Foster a collaborative and supportive environment, promoting effective communication and teamwork among the technical team and other production departments.

  • Stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and techniques in theatrical production, and make recommendations for improvements and innovation.

  • Assist with the maintenance of the Facilities of the theatre and coordinate any necessary contract work. 

Qualifications:

  • Experience working as a technician in a theatre

  • Good knowledge of technical theatre practices, including set construction, lighting, sound, and stage management.

  • Proficiency in using industry-standard software and equipment related to theatrical production (QLab, CAD etc)

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team of theatre practitioners. 

  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities, with a keen eye for detail.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with artists, designers, and technicians.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic theatrical environment, including evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.

Assets:

  • Valid Driver’s License 

  • Knowledge of Facility management 

  • Knowledge of Digital streaming (live or pre-recorded) 

  • Knowledge of any editing softwares, Adobe Premiere Pro for example

  • Experience with any theatrical digital technologies (eg. Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Haptics, Binaural sound etc.)

  • Experience with theatrical accessibility initiatives (eg. captioning, ASL interpretation, Audio-Description, Relaxed Performances)
