Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION
Neptune Theatre is searching for a highly organized and dynamic Director of Education and Outreach. This role
will be responsible for all aspects of the Neptune Theatre School and Neptune Touring Company (TourCo),
ensuring Neptune’s values of safety, collaboration, inclusivity, and excellence are at the forefront of their work.
In addition this role oversees our accessible outreach programming leading Neptune to strive to better support
our community. Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Education and Outreach has one full
time staff member, 2-3 casual part time staff members, a number of contract employees to teach, support
programming, TourCo, and theatre school productions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and execute Neptune’s education and outreach strategy.
Lead the vision, implementation, and evaluation of education programs, workshops, accessible
programs, and TourCo and Education productions.
Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure programs align with organizational goals and objectives.
Develop and manage the annual business plan and budget for the Theatre School and TourCo.
Create and implement the yearly plan for accessible programming including budgeting and tracking.
Select the playbill for TourCo and Theatre School Productions in collaboration with the Artistic Director.
Work closely with the Artistic Director to collaborate on a uniform artistic vision for Neptune Theatre
and the Neptune Theatre School.
Liaise with the Production Manager to determine production staffing for theatre school programs,
productions, and TourCo.
Oversee the recruiting and hiring of all theatre school staff.
Select, negotiate and create contracts for all theatre school productions and TourCo. artists, designers,
stage managers, and directors.
Ensure effective interdepartmental communication between departments regarding Theatre School,
TourCo and accessibility programs.
Assist in identifying funding opportunities, writing grant proposals, and reporting success of completed
programs.
Organize and host talk backs, industry and teacher nights.
Assist with admin and coach on mentorship programs.
Work with the Marketing department to promote, manage and strategize marketing campaigns and
communications.
Collaborate with the Theatre School Manager on the Theatre School operations.
Maintain strict compliance with applicable legislation, licensing, safety regulations, union agreements
and company policies.
Collaborate with the Senior Management team on plans, partnerships, projects, and strategies to
support Neptune Theatre’s mission.
REQUIREMENTS
5+ years of experience in education, programming, or outreach with at least 3 years in a leadership
role.
Post-secondary in education, theatre creation or equivalent experience.
Strong understanding of educational program development, theatre production, community outreach
strategies, and partnership building.
Proficient in budget creation and management, ensuring effective allocation and control of financial
resources.
Experience working with industry unions and organizations (CAEA, AFM, PACT).
Proven leadership skills and experience managing teams.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage a variety of audiences.
Demonstrate strong organizational and project management skills, and is detail oriented.
Adept at multitasking, prioritizing tasks and consistently meets deadlines.
Skilled in problem-solving and able to adapt quickly.
Exhibit a positive and collaborative attitude, fostering teamwork and cooperation.
Flexible schedule that allows availability to work some evenings and weekends.
SALARY
This position offers an annual salary of $55, 000 including three weeks vacation and health plan benefits.
