Job Description

Term: Part-time and hybrid contract, working remotely
Workdays: ~25hrs a week with increased hours during production time.
Compensation: $25-30/hr. Up to $40,000/year 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Artistic Director, the Business Manager holds a key leadership role in the organization and works collaboratively with the Artistic Director, contract producer, production teams, and the board of directors to develop and execute the annual operating plan. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Business Manager collaborates to execute the annual operating plan, including financial management and reporting, development of the fundraising plan, maintaining and developing existing and new systems, and providing management support for all human resource activity. 

Planning

  • Assists in the development of the annual budget and marketing and communication strategy

  • Leads Grant Writing (government, foundations, and corporate sponsorship)

  • Ensures that operational support is in place for productions, auditions and workshops; supervises the production coordinator and other contract staff. 

  • Works closely with the Production Coordinator to determine and meet the necessary supports and specific needs of each production. 

Financial Management

  • Handles day to day financial management and systems (working with Quickbooks) 

  • Ensures timely external reporting to funding agencies and other fiduciary requirements such as the CRA, WCB, and the completion and accuracy of annual audited financial statements

  • Ongoing budget management and internal reporting working closely with the Artistic Director to develop production budgets. Works with accountants to oversee production payrolls and payables and maintains a payments schedule. 

Office Management

  • Maintains electronic files through Google Drive

  • Day to day handling of correspondence

Personnel Management

  • Oversees employees, contractors, and other consultants; liaises with artistic, technical, production, and other team members for full delivery of projects. 

  • Issues all contracts including those for marketing and creative personnel 

  • Provides artistic and administrative support to the Artistic Director, as needed.

  • Develops and maintains human resource processes, documentation and systems

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate is someone who is passionate about the arts, specifically Indigenous Theatre. 

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration, Business Administration or similar fields, or commensurate experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ administrative experience

  • Experience in the Indigenous arts and not for profit sector an asset

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license for the Province of British Columbia would be considered an asset

 

Required Performance Competencies

  • Respects diversity and promotes inclusion in the workplace

  • Proven track record of accomplishments in fundraising & experience in grant writing 

  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written

  • Strong ability to think and plan strategically 

  • Strong understanding of CRA regulations and donor program implications

  • Strong organization and time management skills 

  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to change
