BTW is Canada’s longest running theatre company dedicated to the works of Black and diasporic communities. Its mission is to promote and produce outstanding theatre that educates, entertains and inspires. The company strives to create greater cross-cultural understanding by expanding the representation of Black Canadian artists. Currently the Artist Mentorship Program trains one cohort of emerging artists per year with a showcase at the end of the sessions.

Job Description

Black Theatre Workshop (BTW) is currently seeking an Outreach Coordinator to organize the Theatres events and fundraisers as well as execute the fundraising plan, maintain the database and handle box office when appropriate.

Responsibilities of the Outreach Coordinator:

  • Working with Senior Staff to organize and execute the Theatre’s events and fundraisers.
  • Create and organise task calendars for each event.
  • Coordinate the information needed for marketing purposes.
  • Solicit programme ads, event sponsorships or in-kind donations as needed.
  • Network with relevant target markets or potential groups for event sales.
  • Organize and manage event mailings.
  • Coordinate and train volunteers for events as needed.
  • Execute the details of the fundraising plan.
  • Coordinate and expand the Theatre’s fundraising drives. 
  • Process and acknowledge all donations.
  • Develop and/or maintain records, and maintain strong relationships with Theatre donors, potential donors and supporters.
  • Research, identify and pursue prospective new individual and corporate donor contacts.
  • Organize the ticket reservation systems and box office including taking reservations or ticket sales when needed.
  • Manage box office issues that may arise, answer questions and solve problems.

Qualifications and key competencies:

  • Experience in a non-profit or arts-based organization is a plus   
  • Proven aptitude for planning
  • Knowledge of the local and national theatre landscape would be a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; professional fluency in French require
