Job Description

MARKETING STRATEGIST, INDIGENOUS THEATRE

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (35 hours per week)
Occasional evening and weekend work
Annual/hourly salary: $60,400 - $86,900 (position with benefits and pension plan)
Closing date: September 3, 2023
Anticipated start date: October 2, 2023

Key activities:
The National Arts Centre is currently seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to join our team in the departments of Marketing & Indigenous Theatre as a Marketing Strategist (MS). This MS will be part of a team to develop and execute the strategies to promote programming initiatives that will engage Indigenous artists and communities across the country. The selected candidate should bring knowledge of Indigenous communities, protocols, and practices. In addition, political knowledge and knowledge of social justice initiatives is important.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Build awareness of NAC Indigenous Theatre programming, elevate Indigenous artists and develop relationships with local Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities to build loyal audiences for all Indigenous Theatre (IT) activities.
- Build relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations in local area;
- Develop strategic marketing plans for all IT initiatives including identifying goals, target audiences, strategies and tactics; execute plans on time and measure & report on results;
- Create briefs and work closely with agency partners to develop, execute and measure strategic paid media campaigns;
- Work with Indigenous artists and agencies to develop compelling marketing materials in line with the vision of the Indigenous Theatre artistic direction (e.g.: web/digital images, print materials, videos etc.);
- Evaluating the results of marketing initiatives through budget & revenue management.


Required qualifications:
• Experience and sound knowledge and understanding working with or in, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities and cultures. This includes being familiar with storytelling, performance, dance, theatre, music and other artistic expressions;
• Knowledge of and experience with social media strategies or platforms;
• Ability to work in a team that thrives in a fast paced, high-volume environment with shifting priorities and multiple stakeholders under tight deadlines;
• Ability and willingness to share Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing with Indigenous and non-Indigenous people and organizations to effect change, and understanding and respecting cultural protocols in undertaking this work;
• Strong project management and organizational skills; and attention to detail in your own work;
• Computing skills in MS Office (Teams)
• 2 years of relevant experience;
• AND / OR Diploma/degree in the Arts, Communications, Marketing, Journalism/Media or Related Program;
• OR a combination of education and relevant experience;
• Strong verbal and writing skills in English; fluency in verbal French and/or an Indigenous language would be considered an asset but not required for consideration for the position.
• Familiarity with the performing arts as an asset.
