Presentation House Theatre (PHT) is located on Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Slílwta/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Territories, in the heart of North Vancouver. The company produces and presents professional theatre for children, youth and adults, and provides vital community engagement through performance outreach experiences. PHT’s community is not based in geography but in the local, national, and international creative collaborations, connections, and programs we share with people on the North Shore and beyond. Through our programming, we invite diverse audiences from all walks of life come together to explore, redefine and confirm their sense of communities. A typical season at PHT includes mainstage productions, presentations, touring, a small series of professional music and dance, and the hosting of several local arts groups, plus the work of artists in the PHT Creative Hub. We average 60+ events throughout the year and proudly act as an incubator space for the development of new works. In addition to this, we run a number of outreach programs, working primarily with seniors and youth on various initiatives, including storytelling, improvisation, and creative education in local Black history education, in partnership with a wide range of schools and community groups.

Job Description

The Marketing and Publicity Manager is the public voice for PHT and involves everything from big-picture planning to execution of all promotional tactics for a wide range of events and initiatives. They will work together with the PHT team and a part-time marketing assistant to provide expertise on promotional strategies and considerations for all company activities, mentor emerging artists and Hub members in promoting their own projects, and execute the majority of marketing and publicity-related tasks. A keen mind for marketing strategy and teamwork, while being able to manage their own tasks and results are key.

This position will work closely with all members of the PHT team, collaborating with the Managing Director and Artistic Director on big-picture strategy and ideas; Director of Applied Theatre on outreach-related activities; Box Office and Administrative Manager on ticketing, front of house, and event logistics; Production and Technical Directors on specific production-related needs; and Casual Marketing Assistant and other contractors on the execution of specific tasks.

DUTIES

    • Take the lead on developing marketing and promotional initiatives to reach diverse audiences and participants

    • Create, develop, maintain, and oversee PHT “voice” across all communications

    • Research, draft, and distribute media releases, tailored follow-up pitches, and invitations for PHT activities to well-maintained contact lists

    • Track and archive media coverage and PHT advertising/marketing distribution, including impact statistics

    • Oversee and actively participate in the creation of all digital and print marketing materials, including advertising, posters, programs, social media posts, and e-newsletters

    • Manage and update the website regularly

    • Liaise with marketing partners, such as designers, printers, and other contractors

    • Work with artists and producers to gather event information and collaborate on promotions

    • Mentor emerging artists in their own event promotion

    • Assist the Managing Director in executing fundraising campaigns and communications

    • Other marketing, publicity, and communications-related duties, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

The Marketing and Publicity Manager will collaborate and work well with others while being self-motivated to envision, initiate, and execute tasks. This role requires a mix of big-picture, creative thinking and detail-oriented task execution, a desire to learn, and collaborate. A successful candidate will actively participate in, and communicate about, PHT’s decolonization and anti-racism activities, programs, and initiatives.

    • Excellent writing skills and a keen eye for design

    • Experience crafting and executing marketing and promotional campaigns

    • A strong ability to build interpersonal relationships and mutually-beneficial collaborations with diverse team members and stakeholders

    • Experience with press relations, including press release composition and targeting story ideas

    • Comfort with online publishing platforms like Canva and Wordpress

    • A firm understanding of social media-related outreach and advertising strategies

    • A dedication to decolonization and anti-racism work as a team member and ability to communicate across diverse audiences about these topics

    • A detail-oriented view to executing tasks, tracking results, and iterating to reach results

SALARY, HOURS, AND BENEFITS

Salary: $42,000-45,000 with 3 weeks vacation plus 1-1.5 week break at year-end. Medical and dental benefits included after 3-month probationary period.

Hours: 9-5, Monday-Friday, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities. Staff get one on-call flex day a week and partial work-from-home options after successful probationary period.
