Black Theatre Workshop (BTW) is currently seeking a Managing Director to build on its 50-year history of artistic growth and success. In partnership with the Artistic Director, the Managing Director serves as part of the Senior Management team, where they work in concert to execute the mandate and mission of BTW in accordance with their own respective duties and responsibilities.

Organizational Overview

BTW is a ground-breaking theatre company committed to showcasing and fostering Black Canadian artists, inspiring dialogue and broadening understanding across the country. BTW is Canada’s longest running theatre company dedicated to the works of Black and diasporic communities. Its mission is to promote and produce outstanding theatre that educates, entertains and inspires. The company strives to create greater cross-cultural understanding by expanding the representation of Black Canadian artists.

Currently BTW produces one to two mainstage productions per year, as well as a touring production during Black History Month. Other related activities include a theatre training program, a play reading series, various smaller events and fundraisers.

Responsibilities of the Managing Director
Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Managing Director is responsible for all administrative staff and aspects of the company including the management and supervision of the operational, financial and administrative performance of the company. In collaboration with the Artistic Director, the Managing Director also oversees the financial aspects of promotion and audience development. The Managing Director ensures the smooth and efficient operation of BTW and provides professional support as needed, to the Board of Directors.
