Job Description

ABOUT THE POSITION AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Canadian Stage has recently relaunched its new work development department. Currently, we are working with nationally recognized artists to develop and present new work. Canadian Stage's central mission includes the development of new work - the New Work Development Coordinator will play a crucial role in programming and administration of one of the pillars that is most important to our company.

Please note: $29,000 annual salary, payable on a pro rata basis, paid in weekly installments of $557.69 gross weekly for 20 hours per week

 Skill Requirements: 

  • Exceptional organizational skills and detail oriented
  • Experience in dramaturgy of some kind such as new work dramaturgy, directing, programming or script coordination
  • Experience with administration work in theatrical institutions 
  • Excellent written communication skills 
  • Ability to plan and meet deadlines 
  • Highly organized 

 Duties/Responsibilities 

The new work development coordinator provides support for the New Work Development Department, they support the Associate Artistic Director (Head of New Work Development) in the coordination and organization of the department. 

  •  Assist the Associate Artistic Director in the administration of the New Work Development department, which includes the Festival of Ideas and Creation, workshops and presentations of new work, and master classes. 
  • Establish and maintain relationships with artists and agents affiliated with Canadian Stage and introduce new artists to Canadian Stage
  • Coordinate readings, workshops, and events related to New Work Development 
  • Manage and administer all scripts solicited by the programming team
  • Review all solicited scripts and make recommendations to the Associate Artistic Director and Artistic Director
  • Manage all new work submissions and correspondence for New Work Development
  • Provide information on the New Work Development department to general inquiries
  • Represent Canadian Stage at events happening outside of the company and attend theatrical and dance performances that occur outside of the company
  • Provide recommendations to the Associate Artistic Director and Artistic Director based on research and reading of new work occurring in Canada and around the world
  • Work with the Associate Artistic Director to assist with all writing associated with New Work Development, including website content, articles, and programs.
  • Participate in all programming meetings and advice on programming decisions
  • Participate in artist meetings as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

 Qualifications: 

 An ideal candidate has at least one year of experience in an arts organization or similar environment in an administrative capacity, as well as a background in theatre. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional communication and administration skills as well as resourcefulness, energy, and a positive attitude. They will be able to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously and using their dramaturgical sensibility, they will be able to advise on programming decisions.
