The St. Lawrence Shakespeare Theatrical Company invites applications for the position of Artistic Director.  The Festival is entering its 22nd season of producing professional productions in an amphitheatre on the banks of the St. Lawrence River in historic Prescott, ON. As the primary provider of outdoor summer theatre, presenting Shakespeare and the classics, in Eastern Ontario, the Festival fulfils a unique role in the cultural life of the region.

The Artistic Director is responsible for conceiving, developing and implementing the artistic vision of the Festival and reports directly to the Board of Directors. 

The Artistic Director collaborates with the General Manager on all matters pertaining to planning, budgeting, programming, community building, marketing and fundraising.

 The successful candidate will possess a collaborative, team-driven work ethic, with proven ability to engage and inspire artists, staff and volunteers. This person will possess a comprehensive knowledge of regional professional theatre and a strong commitment to community relations and engagement.

 The position requires an in-person, full-time commitment from May 1st to August 31st each year, with flexibility to fulfil other essential tasks during the remainder of the year.

Experience and Qualifications

We are seeking an Artistic Director who possesses:

·       a minimum of three years of related professional experience

·     a minimum of three to five years of artistic leadership at one or more performing arts organizations, with a successful record of demonstrated excellence in programming

·       a track record of collaboration, leadership and team building

·       excellent interpersonal skills and

·       outstanding communication and presentation skills - both written and verbal.
