Company Overview
The Belfry Theatre is located on Lekwungen territory. We are Vancouver Island’s largest professional producing theatre, dedicated to producing contemporary plays, with an emphasis on Canadian work. The season consists of four to six productions plus an annual festival. The Belfry is also a hub for community activity with performance and event rentals.
Job Description
Reporting to the Executive Director, and working in close collaboration with the Audience Services Manager, the FOH Manager is responsible for leading the FOH team - FOH supervisor and volunteers - and ensuring that every patron feels safe and welcome in our building.
We seek a manager who can reinforce and cultivate this communal feeling with our patrons, deliver training to volunteers to enrich our patron experience with great customer service, and act as the face of the company for performances. The successful candidate must be charismatic, considerate, and flexible—someone who can deal with immediate challenges and customer service issues in a calm and decisive manner. We seek a highly motivated and critical thinking team player who works creatively and collaboratively as part of the Belfry administrative team.
This is a full-time seasonal position with a varying schedule.
• Create a friendly, seamless, and safe environment for patrons, guests, and partners.
• Responsible for the supplies and maintenance of bar and concession areas.
• Work in close collaboration with Belfry staff for various departmental events and FOH specific sponsorships.
• Maintain efficient communication (with reports, preparatory meetings, ongoing conversations etc) between front-of-house and Belfry staff including production teams.
• Responsible for the creation and delivery of the pre-show speech to the house.
• Resolve customer service issues that may arise.
• Train supervisors and volunteers and maintain a high standard of knowledge in the area of health and safety for your team.
• Maintain ongoing understanding of and training in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
Qualifications/Skills
• Demonstrated experience in a customer facing supervisory or managerial role in a live events environment.
• Serving It Right, Foodsafe, and First Aid certification will be required.
• A knowledge and love of theatre is an important asset.
• Must be flexible and able to adapt to change.
• Strong volunteer leadership skills
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Comfortable and confident with public speaking.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite.
• Familiarity with Theatre Manager and SignUpGenius is an asset.
• In-person/ in office performance and administrative hours are required.
