Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Grand is seeking a hands-on, deadline-driven Finance Associate.  Reporting to the Senior Manager of Finance, the Finance Associate is responsible for the weekly payroll cycle, journal entries, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. The Finance Associate plays an integral part in the input, processing, and maintenance of the theatre’s accounting records, payroll processing, and group benefits administration.

 

The Finance Associate is a self-motivated, meticulous teammate who lives and breathes finance, and payroll. This individual is interested in understanding how the finance function integrates with the organization and its overall impact.  This position requires someone who can manage priorities, work well under tight payroll deadlines, all while having a high level of attention to detail.   The candidate will excel at internal customer service, supporting the work of the theatre in all areas.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

-          Process government and union remittances

-          Complete accounts payable coding, entries, balancing, and cheque runs

-          Complete accounts receivable invoicing, balancing, cash receipts, and remittances including monitoring of outstanding accounts

Payroll

-          Process weekly payroll including: all union dues, benefits, and RRSP deductions, all input, balancing, and maintenance

-          Entry of payroll journal entries into the general ledger

-          Manage employee insurance and benefits plans and benefits records

-          Other payroll related activities including ROE, filings, T4, T4A, etc.

Other Financial Responsibilities

-          Complete petty cash and credit card processing and entry

-          Complete daily box office sales transactions & general ledger entries

-          Periodically reconcile donations and ticket revenues between GL and CRM

-          Calculate royalty payments

-          Ensure POS transactions are properly recorded in the GL and reconciled (GL to POS)

-          Assist with the preparation of the annual financial audit

-          Prepare deposits and complete sales reconciliations

-          Additional tasks as required

-          Provide strong, collaborative internal customer service

 

Qualifications

 

-          2 or more years of professional accounting/finance experience, and/or a post-secondary certificate/diploma, preferably with some prior exposure to a non-profit environment.

-          Passion or interest for theatre and the performing arts

-          Technology competencies include: experience with business accounting software (ActivityHD preferred but not required; Microsoft Excel required), Payroll systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred), and collaboration tools such as Microsoft Office, Teams and Zoom.

-          Experience working with union agreements in a payroll context is an asset

-          Excellent interpersonal skills

-          Ability to efficiently manage priorities and work accurately under tight deadlines

-          Ability to work tactfully and diplomatically while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality


Position Details

·       This full-time, ongoing role reports directly to the Senior Manager of Finance and works closely with the Finance Assistant, the Executive Director, all senior leaders and all paid staff.

·       Our work environment is primarily in-person at 471 Richmond Street in downtown London, Ontario. Work hours are 35 hours per week, and typically are 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, with some flexibility.

·       Salary range is between $45,000-60,000 per annum, commensurate with skills & experience.

·       The Grand offers a comprehensive compensation package that includes generous extended health, dental, retirement and complimentary ticket benefits.

·       New hires must be legally able to work in Canada, must provide a recent and clear police information check, and must sign on to the theatre’s employee handbook and health & safety policies, which form part of the employment agreement.
