We need an Executive Director who will share the board’s vision and implement an artistic, progressive, inclusive, and green strategic plan. About the Astor: The historic Astor Theatre in Liverpool, Nova Scotia is the oldest continuously running theatre in the province. Built in 1902, the 348 seat Astor is part of Liverpool’s town hall – now the Town Hall Arts and Cultural Centre. The Astor is the cultural jewel of the South Shore and is known for its acoustics, intimate setting, and proud and supportive audiences and community. The theatre hosts world renowned touring musical artists, local and international theatre productions, and movies. Now managing the arts and cultural centre, the Astor’s assets have expanded to include art gallery, small concert/meeting spaces, and a workshop space. The theatre and centre are governed by a dynamic and engaged volunteer Board of Directors, have a strong base of volunteers, and have solid financial systems in place.

Job Description
Overview of the Position: This is a strategic leadership position. The Executive Director (ED) provides a leadership role in the development of the overall strategic direction of the Astor Theatre Society and assumes responsibility for the implementation of strategic and operational plans. The ED successfully manages staff, supports the Board, and ensures the Society’s financial and organizational sustainability. Reporting to the Society’s Board of Directors through the Chair, the ED ensures that board members are kept fully informed and current on all matters pertaining to the well-being of the theatre. To be successful and meet expectations for the position, you will have had previous experience in the performing arts sector and a proven background in arts administration including venue, financial and staff management.
You will have the opportunity to develop and implement new strategies, policies and plans, and manage the day-to-day activities related to the following strategic areas:
· Community Engagement and Profile
· Organizational Sustainability— fund development, budgetary/financial, capacity to deliver, and human resources
· Board Governance and Strategic Direction
· Program Management

Qualifications:
Minimum: Post-secondary education
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in theatre studies, arts administration, or related field
Minimum Experience:
· 5 years of experience in arts or non-profit administration including facility management
· 5 years of experience in non-profit fund development, including demonstrated success in securing major gifts and grants
· 5 years of experience in board management in a non-profit setting
· 5 years of experience managing employees
Preferred Experience:
Senior leadership experience in a theatre organization or other related arts setting.
Skills/Knowledge:
· Proven leadership capabilities;
· Demonstrated ability to effectively promote programming with limited budget and resources;
· Strong oral and written communication skills;
· Strong presentation and persuasive skills;
· Excellent interpersonal skills;
· Excellent organizational skills, including efficient multitasking and time management;
· Willingness to work flexible hours;
· Strong computer skills, including relevant software.
Preferred Skills/Knowledge:
· Familiarity with aspects of theatre production, including basic design and technical operations
· Knowledge of software systems that include integrated marketing, donor management and financials
Salary Range: 50K – 60K commensurate with experience
