Job Description

 

Associate Production Manager

 

This position reports to the Director of Production.

 

Responsibilities include:

·         Leading in the implementation of artistic vision to technical reality.

·         Planning and implementing all technical requirements for new productions mounted in any one of the four theatres within agreed budgets.

·         Working with others to create realistic and workable budgets for new projects.

·         Determining and scheduling IATSE calls for maintenance, load-in/out and performances for productions.

·         Liaising with Shop Stewards to communicate information, identify issues and resolve problems.

·         Supervising the work of outside contractors and freelance staff to ensure they understand and work in accordance with the collective agreement.

·         Liaising with Touring Personnel and freelancers to provide information, orientation and training.

·         Monitoring the workplace to ensure Workplace Health and Safety compliance, identifying issues and taking corrective action.

·         Creating crew and project estimates.

·         Reviewing, analyzing, and implementing Technical Riders.

·         Liaising with suppliers to obtain quotes for the purchase and rental of equipment.

·         Managing and supervising the installation of rental productions.

·         Reviewing and implementing plans, drawings, and budgets.

·         Managing weekly crew costs and creating crew estimates for touring productions.

·         Consulting with members of the Finance department to maintain production accounts and reports that reflect the current needs of productions.

·         Tracking Production budgets during builds, and during the running of productions to identify issues and take corrective actions.

·         Managing special Marketing and Publicity off-site events and Season Launch Events.

·         Sourcing and purchasing products and materials for new and touring productions.

·         Managing load-ins and the daily running of the rehearsal hall for Mirvish's productions.

·         Working with Stage Managers, Production Managers, Production crews and members of creative teams to manage requirements and control costs.

·         Serves on various Joint Health & Safety Committees

 Managing one-off projects such as coordinating the implementation and maintenance of production related technological needs with IT staff or coordinating the development and implementation of procedures related to safe working practices.

·         Ensuring that work areas are maintained to a clean and safe standard.

·         Performing other tasks as assigned by management.

 

 

Qualifications and Experience:

·         Post-secondary degree or equivalent vocational training in Technical Theatre.

·         Experience of Production Management in originating productions as well as managing road shows passing through.

·         Experience in understanding and interpreting collective agreements.

·         Ability to converse with creative teams in such a way as to deliver a production as envisaged, within budget. Ability to say no if necessary.

·         Leadership qualities are vital. To confidently head up a team of technicians, as well as manage suppliers and contractors efficiently and effectively.

·         To be highly proficient numerically, verbally and on the page.

·         Stamina to work long hours whilst managing conflicting demands and personalities.

Availability: Must be available to work flexible hours including weekdays, evenings, and weekends

 

Salary Range: $62,000 - $68,000 depending on experience
