Lighthouse and Showboat Festival Theatre are dedicated to fostering and
promoting live professional theatre in southern Ontario, for Canadians by

Lighthouse and Showboat each present five Main Stage productions from May to
September. The Main Stage at Lighthouse Festival Theatre in Port Dover is a
347-seat proscenium theatre, and Showboat Festival Theatre is a 228-seat
proscenium theatre in Port Colborne.

Lighthouse also presents a Young Company program, Community Show and
One Act Festival, and acts as a rental venue in the fall and winter months.

Lighthouse and Showboat each have one annual campaign in addition to special
interest areas such as youth engagement and playwright development.

Position Summary
We are seeking a dynamic professional in the role of Development Officer,
Individual Giving. This is a full time, permanent position. Working out of our Port
Dover office with occasional travel to Port Colborne as needed, the successful
candidate will play a key role in the support and implementation of Lighthouse
and Showboat Festival Theatre’s donor programs and government relations. This
position is responsible for meeting assigned revenue targets for annual donors,
major donors, and grants; assisting with capital fundraising; and overseeing all
donor recognition and cultivation. Additionally, the successful candidate will build
relationships with community leaders and groups, working closely with the
Development Officer of Corporate Partnerships, the Executive Director and the Artistic Director.

Major Responsibilities:


  • Create and execute a comprehensive development plan in conjunction with the Development Officer, Corporate Partnerships
  • Oversee the annual giving program, including membership and major gifts
  • Develop thematic campaigns to support seasonal giving and youth programs
  • Oversee successful implementation of program elements, including: stewardship, benefit allocation, renewals, reporting and solicitation
  • Prepare individual profiles on donor prospects
  • Build relationships with current donors
  • Responsible for implementing donor recognition benefits
  • Coordinate capital campaign research on existing and future pledges/solicitations


  • Research foundations to approach for funding and prepare written
  • Identify potential sources of government and other funding to prepare
    grant applications as required

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Self-starter, able to identify new opportunities and areas of improvement
  • Expert in the use of Microsoft Office products
  • Effectively manage projects on your own
  • Work collaboratively with team members
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, very organized in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive and results-oriented
  • Positive attitude

Experience and Qualifications:

  • 2 or 3 years of fundraising in the not-for-profit sector, or equivalent
  • Diploma or Degree in fundraising, development, or equivalent
  • Experience with industry standard tools
  • Experience in event planning an asset
  • Understanding and passion for theatre an asset
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
