PACT sits on the Health and Safety Advisory Committee for the Live Performing Arts – a committee working in conjunction with the Ontario Ministry of Labour. One of the goals of the committee is to develop industry-specific guidelines for the live performance industry not only in Ontario but also for the entire country. The 3rd edition of Safety Guidelines for the Live Performance Industry in Ontario was published in August 2005 and is available from the Ontario Ministry of Labour.
An online version of the complete guide is available. There are 19 guidelines available with topics including Hand Props and Costumes, Pyrotechnic Special Effects, Performer Flying and Aerial Stunts, Rakes, and Risk Assessment for Productions.
One of the most recently published (June 2013) guidelines – Temporary Performance/Outdoor Structures – was developed in response to a fatal accident at the set-up for an outdoor concert in Toronto.
The committee continues to review and update existing guidelines as required.
