The Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT) is announcing that Executive Director Sara Meurling has resigned for urgent family reasons. Her last day will be Friday February 15, 2019. Senior staff member and long-time PACT contributor Boomer Stacey will be stepping in as Interim Executive Director as the Board of Directors begins the search for Ms. Meurling’s successor.

Throughout her dedicated almost 5-year tenure, Sara has been instrumental in (re)engaging and (re)connecting PACT to theatre companies large and small from coast to coast to coast. Whether starting initiatives that continue to make a huge impact on our theatre ecology or inviting conversation on evolving artistic practice that shape the Canadian theatre landscape, Sara leaves PACT with a strong foundation that motivates growth and potential. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we will dearly miss Sara and we wish her the best as she embarks on a new chapter in her life and career.

A word from Sara: “I am sad to announce my resignation as Executive Director of PACT. This decision was made with the Board of Directors of PACT and I thank them for being so understanding and supportive. I have been so proud of what I have been able to accomplish at PACT over my tenure, working with dedicated Board members, fantastic staff, and with the support of the associations’ members and the wider theatre community.”

In the coming weeks and months, the Board of Directors will be working alongside Boomer as well as the talented staff to ensure a smooth transition and support the search process for the new Executive Director. The Board is confident that the work of PACT, its initiatives and future will continue to move forward under the exceptional staff that Sara guided and added during her tenure. We look forward to the next stage of PACT and are excited to continue embracing evolution in our art, our artists, and our organization.
