The Chemainus Theatre Festival (CTF) seeks a Technical Director.


What we’re looking for:

·        Demonstrable experience in theatrical arts.

·        Thorough grounding and demonstrated abilities in many aspects of stagecraft.

·        High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Vectorworks, ETC EOS.

·        Scheduling, communication and time management abilities and familiarity with schedules in a theatrical setting.

·        Elevated skills in Computer Aided Drafting.

Other duties and responsibilities will include:


· Maintain or improve the high quality of production values on the Chemainus Theatre stage and livestreamed performances.
· Fulfill all responsibilities in a manner consistent with the Chemainus Theatre Festival’s mission statement, policies and procedures.
· Monitor own work schedule and hours in consultation with the production manager & Artistic Director.
· Supervise production personnel during load-ins, tech periods, and performances in an inclusive, friendly, and supportive manner.

Production Cycles:

· Work to ensure that the artistic vision of the artistic team is realized on stage.
· As production appropriate, assist in production-specific projects.
· Attend rehearsals, production meetings as well as other company meetings that require production or technical input, as required.
· Interface with production designers to determine material needs as per production deadlines and do primary costing and special effects, working closely with the production manager to ensure accuracy.
· Engineer and coordinate special projects and special effects.
· Collaborate with the scene shop staff to determine the most efficient construction techniques and materials purchases for the build, with attention to the materials budget.
· Maintain and catalogue expendables, and order new and replacement equipment in consultation with the production manager.
· Orient new casual crew, in partnership with the production manager and house technicians.
· Act as both a crew member, if required, a crew chief in production set-up, tech, performances and strike. This includes scheduling breaks as appropriate.
· Program and operate audio board, sound computer and all other machinery and/or equipment as required for each production.
· Operate all light and sound equipment effectively for rehearsal and performances as required.
· Be the point of first contact for production specific maintenance notes throughout the performance period.
· Oversee annual maintenance, repair, and service or production equipment.
· As necessary: maintain, repair and service technical equipment, or advise production manager on equipment repairs that need to be performed off-site.
· Oversight as appropriate and in consultation with the Production Manager for the execution of the production requirements of theatre rentals.
