HR Intensive Fall 2019

December 9 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm EST

After a successful launch of a three-part HR Intensive in April of this year, PACT HR Specialist Tabitha Keast has taken feedback from participants and expanded this webinar to four sessions. We’ll take a deep dive into all aspects of the employment cycle, from determining your company’s needs and creating a hiring strategy, to recruitment, to performance development and management, to investigations, to the end of employment.

This is not only an opportunity to get practical direction on these fundamental human resources practices – it’s also a chance to talk frankly with your peers about the challenges that you face each day, and to get valuable feedback about how to handle them.

This intensive is open to non-members, with PACT Members and Colleagues receiving preferential rates:

  • Full Intensive (four sessions): $50 for Members & Colleagues, $100 for non-members
  • Individual sessions: $20 per session for Members & Colleagues, $40 per session for non-members

Module 1 – Staff Planning

Tuesday, November 19, from 1:00 to 2:30pm ET (adjust for your own time zone)

This may sound intimidating to some of you but it’s really nothing more than identifying a gap in your staffing needs and filling it. Easy-peasy? Ha! No. But in this session we’ll break the process down into manageable steps. We’ll start by talking about strategic plans and business plans and how these inform the basis of your staffing plan. And then on to THE GAP ANALYSIS. I know, so fun. And that comment is only slightly sarcastic because, honestly, it really is fun. This is big picture, if-you-dream-it-you-can-do-it type stuff but with actionable goals. We’ll look at:

• What is your strategic plan? (What are your goals?)
• What is your business plan? (How will you grow?)
• What is your staffing plan? (Who do you need to achieve this?)
• Identifying the scope of each role and the attendant competencies
• Building a job description
• Creating a compensation plan
• Bouncing back from crushing budget realities with more than just a can-do attitude and coffee

Module 2 – Recruitment

Tuesday, November 26, from 1:00 to 2:30pm ET (adjust for your own time zone)

We’ll spend 90 minutes talking about best practices for the full recruitment cycle which will include the basic steps that you would expect (see below) but we’re also going to talk about an additional step – building relationships with all of the candidates. This act of recruitment is an invitation for community members to tell you how much they want to work for your company. Active recruitment isn’t just about filling an immediate need – recruitment is the stage where your strategic staffing plan casts a line out into the future.

• Effective job postings
• Recruitment strategies
• Assessing submissions
• Interviewing techniques
• Reference checking
• Making an offer and negotiating contracts
• Creating clear employment agreements that provide protection for your new employee and for your organization
• Building relationships with all candidates

Module 3 – Retention, Policy Development, and Performance Management

Tuesday, December 3, from 1:00 to 2:30pm ET (adjust for your own time zone)

In this session we’re going to walk through the steps that you’ll take to develop your staff from shiny new recruits to seasoned and experienced professionals by looking at the following:
• Effective onboarding
• Employee manuals
• Required employment policies and required Occupational Health & Safety training
• Employee development and motivation (re. it’s more than a Potluck Pie Lunch but that’s a good place to start)
• Performance management
• Succession planning (including emergency succession planning)

Module 4 – Investigations and Terminations

Monday, December 9, from 1:00 to 2:30pm ET (adjust for your own time zone)

…because sometimes things just don’t work out. It sucks. And it will not suck any less if you’re prepared but preparation – policies, processes, checklists – will protect your organization and also provide you with the stability that you need in a process which (at best) is upsetting and (at worst) is volatile. This module will cover how to conduct investigations and terminations, including:
• Due diligence, best practice, and documentation
• How to conduct an investigation with the complainant, respondent, and witnesses
• How to write a report
• How are you accountable and to whom?
• Legal considerations in a termination
• Successful transitions – for everyone
• Severance
