What is PACT?

PACT is the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres. It is a member-driven organization that strives to serve as the collective voice of professional producing theatre companies. We provide leadership, national representation and a variety of programs, services and practical assistance to member companies, which enables members to focus on their own creative work.

Why should my theatre company join PACT?

PACT offers its members invaluable networking and learning opportunities for both artistic and administrative staff. We keep our members in the loop with communications focused on the needs and interests of theatre professionals, represent the needs of our members to parliamentarians and federal funders and offer professional development events throughout the year.

I run a community theatre group. Can my company become a PACT member?

Unfortunately, no. PACT is an association for professional theatre companies. This means that all artists your company engages must receive payment for their work. However, you can still engage with the PACT community by subscribing to our newsletter, liking our page on Facebook or following us on Twitter.

I want to apply for membership!

Great! Please get in contact with Mirette Shoeir, Membership and Communications Manager, who can walk you through the process and answer your questions you might have. Once you fill out a membership application it will be reviewed by our Membership Committee. If they support the application they will recommend approval to the PACT Board of Directors. Once the Board approves the application, you’re officially a PACT member and can start taking advantage of all the great programs and services PACT has to offer.

My company’s membership application was just approved, now what do I do?

Congratulations! PACT has a wide variety of programs and services of which you can now take advantage.

Maybe you’re interested in the Professional Development events and workshops we offer? Then head over to the Learning section, where you can learn about the different programs we run and information on registration. The latest information about our annual conference is also found there.

If your company is interested in the work PACT does to provide a united voice for Canadian theatres and to influence cultural policy for the betterment of live professional theatre in Canada take a look at our Advocacy section, where you can learn about PACT’s advocacy activities and read recent Advocacy Alerts.

Take a look at our Labour Section if you engage artists who are members of Canadian Actors Equity Association (CAEA), Associated Designers of Canada (ADC), Playwrights’ Guild of Canada (PGC) or L’Association des Professionnels des arts de la Scene du Quebec (APASQ).  The Labour section also contains valuable Human Resources and Health & Safety information and resources.

I have an idea for a new program/service/impact! article/something else entirely. Who can I contact?

We are is always interested in improving what we do to better serve our members. If you have an idea for PACT visit our staff listing to find out which staff member would be the best person to contact. If you’re still not sure who to contact please email info@pact.ca and we’ll make sure your question/comment/idea makes it to the right person.
