The Civic Theatre is hiring!  We are looking for an Operations Manager to join our administrative team.

The Operations Manager plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of our facility, fluid internal systems, excellent customer relations, and seamless rental client experiences.

Reporting to the Executive Director, and working with the ED and the Programming Director, you play a key role in the planning and management of the organization’s customer service and earned income streams. You operate with a growth mindset, and support maintaining and growing a supportive and collaborative work environment for staff and volunteers, while seeking excellence in operational and service standards. You have great interpersonal skills and a good sense of humour, both of which enable you to handle stressful situations with grace. You model a high standard for all staff and volunteers in hospitality, professionalism, organization, attention to detail, and attention to the condition and needs of the theatre.

Leading our operational and technical team, you are responsible for overseeing concession, box office and theatre operations, including rental events and our technical department. You manage our staff team that operates the theatre during films, rental events, and other programming, ensuring a welcoming and enjoyable experience for patrons. You ensure that venue staff in all areas of operations and maintenance have the support, guidance, tools, and training to do their work with ease and excellence.

The Operations Manager role touches many facets of our organization.  We are looking for someone with the following knowledge, skills and abilities, but would consider workplace training for the right candidate with the majority of these attributes.


Familiarity with non-profit organizations, theatre and/or festival production, and program development.
Knowledge of theatre and/or cinema technology.
Knowledge of sales management, including cash handling, counting, ordering, storage, loss prevention, and analysis of unit cost and profit margin.
Familiarity with organizational budgets, contracts, HR administration, and policies.

Solid administrative, supervisory and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Leadership skills, including the ability to guide and support, motivate and delegate.
Strong systems thinker and strategic planner.
Skilled at setting goals and objectives and prioritizing what work needs to be done to meet those goals.
Skilled at organizing overall work plans for staff into manageable activities.
Proficient with computers, equipment and technology, including MS Office and Google Docs programs, web-based productivity, communication and research tools, and social media platforms.
Additional IT knowledge is an asset.

Proven ability to be adaptable and to respond proactively to change.
Ability to empower and engage others through a values-based and collaborative approach.
Demonstrates understanding of the “big picture” of NCTS’ organizational development, while attending to the essential details for operational success.
Demonstrates the ability to develop timelines, change priorities as needed and meet deadlines.
Demonstrates work/life balance.
Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
Ability to work autonomously, take initiative, set priorities, organize work, and make independent decisions.

Related management experience in a service-oriented industry.
A passion for great customer service.
Available to work at varying times, which may include daytime, evenings, weekends and holidays.
The ability to work legally in Canada.
Valid BC Drivers Licence.  Access to a vehicle is an asset.
Prior experience in theatre or venue management is a strong asset.
Non-profit experience is an asset.
