Theatre SKAM is seeking applicants for the position of Managing Producer.
Now entering its 25th year, Theatre SKAM has built a solid reputation as creators of innovative site-specific work and intimate elegant theatre. We play a pivotal role in the cultural life of our region and are recognized by peers across the country for our contribution to national networks and new work development.
Our main areas of creation are:
2 full professional productions per year hiring professional and emerging artists.
A Pop-Up Theatre on the back of a pick-up truck, with seats for 10 that tours regionally.
A successful theatre school with 300+ casual registrations annually.
SKAMpede, an annual outdoor theatre festival, where the audience travels from show to show

Managing Producer Job Description
The MANAGING PRODUCER shares responsibility for the overall health and vitality of the organization with the ARTISTIC PRODUCER.
The Managing Producer’s role is to support the artistic programming decisions made by the Artistic Producer by managing the financial and administrative aspects of the organization. In conjunction with the AP, the MP prioritizes funding and resources for Theatre SKAM projects.
REPORTS TO: Artistic Producer / Board of Directors
Areas of Responsibility:
Lead budgeting for projects and organization
Oversee cash flow, year end reconciliation, and government compliance
Bi-weekly meetings with accounting contractor to coordinate payroll
Oversee compliance with Revenue Canada and Service Canada (EI, CPP, GST, Charitable Status, etc)
Ensure compliance for BC Gaming funding
Collaborate with AP to oversee hiring and training
Execute training and communication of company policies and practices to new staff and contractors
Manage conflict resolution as needed with AP and Board President
Manage Canada Student Jobs workers, Co-Op Student Placements, and contracted staff, including reporting and records of employment.
Oversee grant-writing to private and public funders; including
-writing administrative portion and budgets (with AP)
-managing grant timelines, and
-submitting final reports
Oversee and Execute grant-writing for Canada Summer Jobs and other employment-related programs
Support sponsorship campaigns
Support donation campaigns
Board of Directors / Governance
Maintain compliance with BC Society Act
Deliver financial reports at regular board meetings and AGM
Collaborate with AP and Board President to develop and maximize board effectiveness and engagement
Manage board meetings and annual schedule
Collaborate with AP and contracted Producers to produce Theatre SKAM projects which includes but is not limited to:
Project management of production timelines and budgets
Negotiating and creating contracts with artists
Negotiating and shepherding and agreements with presenting and producing partners
Securing venues, insurance, production materials, personnel, etc.
Manage front of house and box office personnel and sales
Collaborate with Communications Coordinator for marketing, publicity, and outreach initiatives
SKAM School of Performing Arts
Support School Administrator and Communications Coordinator in the administration and marketing of school activities
Public Face of Theatre SKAM
Act as a spokesperson, network and make presentations as needed, and represent the company at public and industry functions
Practice advocacy daily not only for the company, but the arts and culture sector as a meaningful and productive part of the fabric of society
Foster good relationships with other arts organizations, and non-theatre entities locally, nationally, and internationally. The MP will be an advocate and ambassador for Theatre SKAM and the organization’s initiatives.
The Managing Producer is called upon to fill duties and tasks beyond this job description, as needed.
Qualities and abilities:
A passion for independent theatre, new creation, and cultivating community through artists and arts projects;
Exceptional communication and collaboration skills;
Familiarity with Apple-Macintosh computers and Microsoft Office products;
Exceptional writing skills;
Experience in financial management for independent arts organizations including budgeting and cash flow;
Presentation and networking skills;
Dedication, endurance and resourcefulness; and
A sense of humour.
This is a salaried position and weekly work hours and times will vary depending on the company’s activities.
Theatre SKAM office hours are generally 10am-5pm
